Ponsse's veteran designers, technical expert specialist Jouko Kelppe and product specialist Risto Vidgrén, are the men behind this 10-wheeled innovation.- Problematic harvesting in terrains with poor carrying capacity has been known for a long time. The climate change and shorter winters and the unfrozen terrain it has brought about, got us to thinking about new solutions. At first, we tried different track solution to see what we could achieve using the existing machinery. Our goal was to discover if we need to develop something new. The need for finding a better solution was obvious. At first we thought about placing an extra wheel in front of the rear bogie, but it proved problematic; there was not enough room at the front and we couldn't achieve favourable weight distribution. As a result, we decided to put the extra pair of wheels at the back. Even though we were a little bit afraid that the driving wheels would start to spin inside the bogie, placing the pair of wheels at the back proved to be the right solution. Had we decided to only increase the ground contacting area with tracks of different widths, the results wouldn't have been as good as now, explain Jouko Kelppe and Risto Vidgrén about the development of their design project.
