Multi-stemming through software logic - Harvesting functions with a single button

Ponsse has developed a software-controlled multi-stemming function for all current PONSSE harvester head models. Thefeature is based on the use of delimbing knives and feed rollers:when the machine grabs a new trunk, the rollers hold thetrunk in place in the harvester head while the knives grab anew tree. Then the rollers automatically open and close, andthe new trunk is cut. The driver can control all of these harvesting functions with a single switch.

The multi-stemming method has been tested in harvesting bio fuel trunks and industrial wood, and experience has proven that the harvester head does not require any technical changes.The multi-stemming feature is available as a software update for Opti4G versions 4.602 and 4.700. The software based logic requires no additional investments apart from the software update expenses, and the logic will not influence regular industrial wood felling features.
