Golden League, Brussels and GP final in men’s javelin, Stuttgart
Golden League, Brussels, 5 September 2008Pitkämäki wins in Brussels
Tero Pitkämäki threw his javelin in Brussels to his third Golden League victory of the season. The winning throw was his first, 85.32 metres. He would have claimed victory even with his second-longest throw of 85.29.
“I threw a consistent set with ample power this time. The javelin would, however, have flown further if I had managed to get it in a better position. As it was the javelin sort of ploughed against the air with many of my throws.
Second in the Brussels javelin competition was Olympic silver medallist, Latvian Ainars Kovals, with 84.76 m. Olympic champion Andreas Thorkildsen only threw twice to finish third (82.39 m).
“Andreas said that he felt a slight pain in his groin, which is why he did not want to throw any more,” Pitkämäki said.
