The Oslo event was settled in the last round
Tero Pitkämäki had to settle for third place in the Oslo Golden League Event with a throw of 85.92, as Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway hurled the winning 87.73 with his last throw and Tero Järvenpää took second place with his personal record of 86.49.Defeat in Oslo means the reigning javelin world champion is out of the running for the Golden League million dollar jackpot, which requires a win in all the six events of the League.
Pitkämäki was in the lead in the Oslo event right until the last round. In the first two rounds he threw 85.82 and 85.92. In the last round the top places were rearranged when Järvenpää improved his Kuortane personal record by over half a metre at 86.49.
Thorkildsen lost to Pitkämäki by one centimetre in Berlin. On his home turf, the Norwegian gave his all and sealed his victory with his last throw.
