An amazing season finale for Pitkämäki!

The last two competitions of the season were a true feast for Tero Pitkämäki. The competition held in Berlin on 4 September can be regarded as the best competition during the athletics summer. Pitkämäki, Makarov and Thorkildsen improved their results one round after the other, while the lead changed from one thrower to another. However, Pitkämäki clinched the first place by throwing 89.32 metres in the final round, Makarov was second with 88.14 metres and Thorkildsen third with his record of that time, 87.75 metres.

Pitkämäki’s season climaxed in Monaco and the two-day final competition of the athletics season. The second round in the men’s javelin competition provided a result which no-one else but Pitkämäki has been able to throw in the last three years: 91.33 metres. Norwegian Thorkildsen also continued his wonderful season by improving his personal best to 89.60 metres. Russian Makarov took the third place with 86.69 metres.

During the season Tero rewrote history in many ways by taking the first place in the World Ranking, among others. Considering Pitkämäki’s future now that the season has ended, we can all agree with the words of Einari Vidgrén, President of Ponsse’s Board: “Only the sky is the limit in the future.”
