Pitkämäki wins in Oslo

15 June 2007

Tero Pitkämäki won the javelin competition in the Golden League meeting in Oslo on Friday evening. Pitkämäki’s winning throw was 88.78 metres. The throw is also Pitkämäki’s best result of the season: at the season’s opening competition in Kuortane, Pitkämäki threw one metre less, 87.78 m. The result means he keeps his place as number two in world statistics for the season.

By clinching victory at Bislet, Oslo, Pitkämäki remains a contender in the contest for the Golden League's million dollar jackpot, which requires winning the event at all six of the League's meetings.

“Tero’s throw still requires some technical fine-tuning. The javelin needs to be thrown slightly lower, irrespective of whether there is a tailwind or a headwind,” reflected Kangas, Pitkämäki’s coach. Pitkämäki, whose win in Oslo was secured with his second throw, was of the same opinion.

“I put everything into the opening of the competition. The first two throws went well. After that my throws went too high and the last throws were unsuccessful,” said Pitkämäki, whose leg support did not work well for the last throws.

Pitkämäki will throw next at the Tampere Elite Games on 20 June.
