1980 - Success Started with Aluminium

The momentous breakthrough in the evolution of forest machines that took place in the 1980s brought renown to the Ponsse name and production was stepped up to meet increasing demand.

In a single dramatic development, Ponsse became known to competitors, customers and logging industry professionals in 1983 when the legendary Ponsse S15 forwarder was launched on the market. Built partly from aluminium, the machine's chassis made it significantly lighter than its competitors, putting it in a class of its own when it came to cross-terrain performance; the lightweight vehicle's tire tracks were less noticeable than those of its competitors.

The Ponsse S15 was produced until 1988. Another important milestone in Ponsse's history was achieved in 1986 when Ponsse introduced its first harvester head, the H520. This played an important part in expanding the product family, previously made up of forwarders only, to include harvesters.
